Terms & Definitions
Dry Weight / Shipped Weight
Weight of the RV as shipped from the manufacturer — no passengers, cargo, liquids, or accessories.
Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW)
Combined weight of the RV (dry weight) plus all passengers, cargo, and liquids.
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR)
The maximum allowed weight of an RV including all passengers, cargo, and fluids.
Cargo Weight
Total weight of passengers, food, clothing, liquids, and accessories loaded into your RV.
Tongue / Hitch Weight
Downward pressure applied from the trailer tongue or coupler to the hitch on your vehicle.
Pin Weight
The pressure applied from a fifth wheel's kingpin to the hitch in the bed of your truck.
Payload Capacity
For trucks: the weight you can safely add to the bed. Your fifth wheel hitch weight must not exceed this. Confirm with your manufacturer.
Max Towing Capacity
The maximum weight your specific vehicle can safely tow, including the RV's GVW plus all passengers and cargo in the tow vehicle.
